back from Rome June 3-4 Forum and from Geneva 18-19 June meeting of UNECE member States representatives ( VI session of UNECE/WPLA), I send you a quick update, before the UN Conference on World Financial and Economic crisis New, that will be held at UN in NY on 24-26 June next.

First of all, I will be in NY in these dates. If any of you will be present, please let me know, so we can coordinate our action.

As you remember, there were some concerns on the report of the Commission of Experts of the President of the UN General Assembly on Reform of the International Monetary and Financial System, chaired by Nobel Prize Joseph Stiglitz, that will be presented to the UN Conference in NY on 24-26 June next, I mentioned above.

These concerns were on the parts of the report related to RE sector, as at pag. 55, item 67 : “Restricting excessively risky practices” and at pag. 58, item 82 “Lending and public banking to promote development”, for their possible negative impact on real economy, on unemployment and on the timing of exit of the crisis.

As you know, the Rome and Geneva UNECE events are leading to UNECE guidelines on Real Estate Markets for Social and Economical benefits of member States.

A basic documen has been presented in Rome on June 3-4, 2009 at an UNECE/WPLA/REM Forum for discussion and inputs.

The outcomes of this Rome Forum have been presented in Geneva on June 18, 2009 at sixth session of UNECE/WPLA for other comments and inputs and now the document is published on

open to any further comment till June 30 next, before to be edited by UNECE/WPLA/REM in a final draft and to be proposed for final approval.

Inter alia, an appropriate RE risk assessment and Loan-To-Value ratio for RE properties, related to financial products, requested by Stiglitz report, are already considered in the document open now to further comments.
